I’m Watching Grey’s Anatomy For The First Time

March 4, 2007

THIS, I WARN YOU, IS A LONG RAMBLING CONVOLUTED POST. IT’S SYMBOLIC OF THE SHOW PERHAPS. PERHAPS NOT. You’ve been warned. -i.

The First Time I Ever Watched Grey’s Anatomy, A Long Synopsis, By Me.

Surgeons are going on a camping trip. It was supposed to be a trip for two. Two dudes. But, others are uninvitedly joining the excursion to the chagrin of the original organizer. A woman is narrating. All the dudes from the hospital. All the lady surgeons are staying at the hospital working. There is tension. Much tension. I don’t know any of these characters. This is a show I’ve never seen until this very moment. It’s introduced itself as a show with dudes going camping, in one storyline, and a husband and wife storyline, where the husband is getting a sex change and the wife ain’t none too pleased.

Camping trip. The premise of this I guess is that not too many of these dudes been campin’ before. Two of the dudes is a couple. I’m just going to relate the straight facts of this episode I guess. Man! I’m waay behind. These people have so many intricate relationship entanglements so far.

Gender reassignment: The wife left at first. Then she came back. Still, she’s really struggling with the idea of being married to a woman soon.

Woman doctor in bathroom stall crying after running out of an ultrasound. Other woman coming in to talk. Sounds like the crying doctor is having a hard time because a baby died recently.

Camping Trip: All out fishing. Gay couple is teaching an older married gentleman a few things about a few things. Lot a relationship talk from these fisherman. Actually that’s all the talk. Whole Lot a tension.

Gonna eat some cereal now, and sum up whatever happens in the meantime after I come back.

Gender Reassignment: Hormones are causing “her” to have breast cancer. If she goes through with the surgery it’s curtains.

Fishing guys: Main original fisherman is annoyed by all these other people being on his camping trip. Other guys are talking about the various people they’re dating.

OH Man! Surgery Man/Woman decides she wants to get her surgery done anyway! Cancer be damned! Wife of patient is distraught. Her Husbandwife is going to die.

There’s also another storyline involving a woman who is assigned to talk to a counselor in the hospital and she’s trying to avoid her. The counselor is very persistent. Oh what Hiijinks!

Also some other woman, who is the girlfriend of the main, annoyed, original camping trip fisherman is being flirted with by another doctor back at the hospital while her fisherman is on the fishing trip. The thing is, he’s on the trip because he said he needed a little “space”. So the doctor flirt back at the hospital is playing on this woman doctor’s insecurities and working hard at what appears to be an attempt to make her want to do him. Sexually.

On with the show….

One fisherman told another fisherman that his girlfriend is sleeping with some other guy, so the cheated on man is fighting the other man for his girlfriends honor. They’re doing a slapfight to protect their hands because they’re surgeons. Get it? Protect they hands.

Gender man is insisting on the surgery. Wife storms out.

Crying doctor has to tell the couple that their unborn child has died.

The counselor story line involves the counselor being basically a female Ned Flanders.

Slapfight continues…. stupid. Whoa!! fight got out control and knocked the skinny asian gay man half of the gay man couple over! He’s fallen headfirst onto a rock. This looks bad.

[Commercial Break]

Fisher doctors are stitching up the guy who fell on the rock with his head. He’s got a gash on his forehead. I think they’re stitching him with fishing line and a modified fishhook.

I just learned that the name of the girl who’s doctor went on a fishing trip for “space” is Grey. Namesake of the show?

Hmmmm….

Unborn child is delivered stillborn. Mother and Father cry and cry and hold their child.

Camping trip ends with the men each in their own way, resigning themselves to the fact that they’re out on the camping trip for the wrong reasons. They’re heading home.

Gender surgery has been performed. Wife has returned to stay by her new wife’s side.

She makes a pretty good speech:

“I was heading home. I was on my way to the airport. You know, you asked before why I came back the first time… You know I tried not to. I went on dates. Had alot of great first dates with guys who were planning to stay guys. But, you know you have a first date and you want to go an tell your best friend about it. And my best friend is Daniel. …..Donna…. And then you have a few bad dates and… She’s my best friend. She knows me. She loves me. She’s;…My husband. At the end of the day, it’s Donna. Even when she hurts me. Even when I hate her…”

Grey says: “She’s who you want to talk to.”

Wife nods and smiles sweetly, sadly.

Narrator,

Most wounds run deeper than we can imagine. You can’t see them with the naked eye. (Men are returning to the hospital one by one to their other women doctors, beepers are going off. Reunions are happening. Small speeches are being made.) And then, there are the wounds that take us by surprise… The trick with any kind of wound or disease, is to dig down and find the real source of the injury. And once you’ve found it… try like hell to heal that sucker.

The End.
